rushes to the shenandoa, as they can't reach an injured hiker. good evening. when the park police crew from washington arrived it was clear the msion ahead wouldn't be easy. derek ward joins us live from park police headquarters with the crews' play-by-play of the dramatic rescue. derek? >> dramatic it was, jim. we are at the park police aviation unit. beyond amid the blue and green lights. a helipad. police helicopter eagle. and in the skies above. as you said, it should take them far beyond as it did today when it performed the daring rescue in the mountains of virginia. a 34-year-old hiker injured and immobile in the mountains, best hope is from above where a crew from the united states park police aviation unit came in. they made the 84 year mile flight before rangers could get to them and began a dangerous rescue mission. it started with the sergeant

being lowered to the victim. >> he looked a little surprised. i came on with my full helmet and safety vest and gear. he looked surprised. >> got it. >> for a pilot it was no easy task. the sergeant wasn't on this mission. but he knows the dangers hovering above a rocky, wooded mountainside. you can't, really, see what is going on below you. u are counting on the rescue technician in back who is telling you, your position is good. your altitude is good. come left two. come right three. >> even the winch operator knows it could entangle the line and anchor the aircraft. not a good thing. >> trying to revert back to training. sort of think of it like another training mission. and as long as i do it that way everything is going to work out. >> it worked out for the hiker after he was ferried to rescuers on the ground. the crew flew back for the sergeant. brought back. not in the rescue basket b on this device known as an

extractor. all in a day's work? >> not really. >> it was for a certain -- >> to see your face. a calming effect. >> now, there is an irony. first off the hiker suffered a broken ankle. he will be okay. the irony is that this unit has a training mission. for a while. guess where the training mission is tomorrow. the very place where they did the rescue. we are live outside the park. a back to you in the studio. >> dareic ward. thank you. >> it has been two weeks since a popular accupuncturist was murdered. they may have the murderer on tape. jackie benson has the story. >> police have not named any suspects in the case. but they do want to know more about the vehicle we are about to show you.

watch carefully as a black suv enters at the top of the screen. it makes a left. it stops. and a man in the passenger seat runs up the driveway of the acupuncture clink on hummer road, where the 53-year-old was found murdered july 24th. the camera that captured the video is mounted on a korean restaurant next door. investigators think the vehicle is a black infinity, fx 35 or 45 with a model year ranging from 2003 to 2008. police say they're trying to identify the vehicle and its occupants at this point. but investigators have said from the ginng, that they d agiistha. she was well known in annandale's korean community for talent as acupuncturist and healer. came to the scene the day the murdered was discovered. >> she would look to help the people.

>> anyone who recognizes that infinity suv or knows the people inside it is asked to cal fairfax county police. jim back to you. >> jackie, thank you. crews pull two body this eveng from the wreckage of the horrific midair crash over the hudson river. that means all nine victims in the crash are now accounted for. the body found were inside the aircraft lifted from the water. the plane cope lieded with a sightseeing chopper saturday. the collision killed three pennsylvania residents. chopper pilot and five italian tourists. authorities say 250 aircraft pass over that area of the hudson every day. president obama tried to cool down the red hot health care debate at a relatively calm townhall meeting in new hampshire. the president began calling his initiative by a new name. insurance reform.

he said those with private insurance will be able to keep it. with more protections if they become sick. those without insurance will be able to choose from a number of plans. one of which would be government run. mr. obama also shot down rumors that his plan calls for the forced euthanasia of seniors. >> where we do disagree, let's disagree over things that are real. not these mild misrepresentations that bear no resemblance to anything that has been proposed. >> 200 demonstrators showed up outside the meeting. one man came with licensed handgun out in the open. which is legal in new hampshire. he said he wanted to make a political statement that if you don'ter exstiz yo er exercise y .ou'll lose them >> across the world, people are remembering eunice kennedy shriver, the sister of john f. kennedy and senator ted kennedy passed away this morning at a hospital in cape cod, massachusetts. she suffered a series of strokes in recent years. shriver may be best known for

founding the special olympics. staff members at the special olympics headquarters here in waington say they were always inspired by shriver who often asked, what more could you be doing? >> that is a phrase i take to my heart every day. i wake up. what more can i be doing? and you know, i take that in my personal life, in my work life. i hope that that phrase people will take and think of when they, when they approach life. what more can you be doing? >> members of the kennedy family are now gathering in massachusetts. eunice kennedy shriver will be laid to rest there on friday. connecticut senator christopher dodd underwent surgery for prostate cancer today. a spokesman says the senator is doing well, recovering at sloan kettering cancer center. earlier this month. dodd announced he had been diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer. the five-term democrat has taken a lead role in the health care reform effort. he is expected to return to work end of this month. coming up tonight on news 4

incident last month in which a train was allowed to leave the yard with too many cars. the system can only handle trains with as many as eight cars. this train had ten when it pulled into the greenbelt station. metro tells us it learned later the operator was using drugs. >> the operator that was involved in bringing the train from the yard to the greenbelt station platform, tested positive for drugs. and he is currently in a drug rehab program. >> metro tells us no forma disciplinary action has been taken against the employee. news of this incidents comes less than two days after a metro worker was hit and killed by a piece of equipment doing track prepares in fairfax county. a man killed in northiainas wee two pitbu is.ll the e 20-year-old carter delane was found dead on plaza street in leesburg yesterday. carter was killed by two pit bulls that belonged to his older

brother. dogs now with animal control. police believe that delaney tried to help a small dog being attacked when the pit bulls turned on him. veterinarians have downgraded the condition of a dog found badly beaten in a dumpsteren southeast washington. we first told you about trooper, yesterday, her vets were hopeful she would make a full recovery. but today they say trooper was acting very lethargic. the wound on her face don't seem to be healing. trooper's prognosis is guarded. if she recovers the humane society hopes to rehabilitate her and adopt her out. when we come right back on news 4 tonight. surveillance pictures, clue us into the terror inside one bank and one customer's close call. a new ad up in the washington area targets the obama girls. we'll tell you what the group behind the ads wants. and bob's back with news of a slight cooldown ahead.

police in michigan looking for a man whoeld a cu customer's head during the bank robbery. photos show the suspect grabbing a woman by the neckhile holding aomemutiaatic pistol to her headut police say he tried to takehe ot.ayawaway. the suspect did get cash from the woman's purse and the teller. las vegas pharmacy took center stage in the michael jackson investigation. federal and local agents searched the pharmacy this morning. one official says they found evidence that jackson's personal physician, conrad murray, legally bought the powerful anesthetic propofol there, a sleep aid. now one of the center focuses in the jackson manslaughter investigation. an ad campaign that targets school nutrition policy is now targeting president obama's daughters. a nonprofit group called

physicians committee for responsible medicine has put up posters at union station. they read, president obama's daughters get healthy school lunches why don't i? the obama girls go to private school where vegetarian options are on the menu. they are not pictured in the ad. the ite house says it violates the first daughters privacy rights. the physicians committee says the ad are only meant to target lawmakers in congress who are on the verge of reauthorizing the child nutrition act. federal authority are now looking into why continental airlines kept passengers stranded on a plane overnight. the passengers are getting their money back. the continental express jet was bound for minneapolis but landed in rochester, minnesota due to bad weather around midnight saturday. no one allowed off the plane until 6:00 in the morning. department of transportation secretary ray lahood wrote to the airline asking for answers. discount carrier, air tran has announced plans few expand service at reagan national

airport. the carrier is adding six takeoff and landing slots. the move comes in response to increased competition from southwest airlines. southwest is poised to start flying out of reagan national if its bid to buy bankrupt frontier airlines goes through this week. in its latest move to reinvent itself, gm has unveiled a hybrid car that boasts unheard of fuel efficiencies. the chevy volt has an epa rating of 230 miles per gallon. that means it will get more than four times the mileage of the toyota prius, currently the most fuel efficient cars onhe road. the volt uses gas to power its electric motor. it can go a total of 300 miles before it needs to be plugged in. some three quarters of americans commute fewer than 40 miles a day. most volt operators will operate it daily without a single drop of gas. chevy volt will hit show rooms
